Obituary

WAUNAKEE - Carrie S. Munz, age 62, of Waunakee, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, as she took her final ride on her broomstick across the sky. She was born Aug. 9, 1959, in Madison, to Robert Munz and Anna Mae Gallagher. She was one of seven children, and to say that neither her family nor the world were prepared for her arrival is truly a testament to her character. Many words could be used to describe to her. Spirited and strong willed, a hilarious firecracker of a woman with a wild sense of humor, she was as vibrant as she was complicated. She was as human as the rest of us, and to know her was to know her warmth as well as the storms she carried with her. She was tenacious to the very end, despite her battle with cancer, and it is a comfort to all of us to know that given her circumstances, she didn’t plan on going without a fight. If we all know one thing about her, it’s that if there was trouble or a fight, she was the one you wanted in your corner, because to go against her was a reckless choice indeed. Her strength and moxie are the parts of her that we will carry with us and remember the most, as well as her stubborn yet generous nature. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Munz; grandson, Brandon Pletsch; and ex-husband and friend, Grover Roach. She is survived by her family, Paul and Kathy Munz, Tom and Julie Munz, Mary Olson, Janice and Bert Sorenson and Joanne Munz; her children, Megan and Kyle Hensen, Kasey Roach, John Roach and Dawn Schuster; three grandchildren Hoyt and Koltyn Hensen, and Brittney Pletsch; as well as her great-granddaughters and many, many nieces and nephews. Per her request there will not be a funeral, instead when it is safe to do so, we will be holding a celebration of life truly befitting such a wild woman. In the meantime, to honor Carrie “Dirty Bird” Munz, when you hear the thunderstorms roll in, pour yourself a drink, put on some Fleetwood Mac, open the windows and just listen. Perhaps if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of her flying through the clouds, cackling in merriment along the way. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. The First time I met Carrie was at the stables at Ft. Knox KY. Then when I went to a military school at Ft. Gordon, I would go up to Waxhaw NC and stay the weekend and help out on the farm with horses’ chickens, and yes a chocolate lab named COCO. One weekend while at Waxhaw, went to see Johnny Paycheck, who was doing a show at a local bar with her husband. These weekends were some of the best times I had, and Yes Megan, I still lie snickers and coke for breakfast. I will miss you, and see you on the other side.

Carrie you always put a smile on my face when I saw you. You were a very special girl and reminded me of myself. Both cocky and always ready for trouble. I'll miss running into you and bullshitting. Rip lady give er hell up there.

I worked with Carrie for several years at UW Learning Innovations. This makes me deeply sad to learn of her passing. I always thought that maybe we would reconnect and do some traveling together in our later years. She was a dear person who will be truly missed by everyone including family and friends. Charlotte Stremcha I would like to be kept in the loop when you have a celebration of life for her. My email address is cstremcha@gmail.com. Thanks
