JoAn Horton

FITCHBURG, Wis. - JoAn Horton, age 89, of Fitchburg, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at the Stoughton Hospital. She was surrounded by family members when the angels came to guide her soul upon its way. JoAn was born in Casper, Wy., on March 30, 1932, the youngest child of Charles and Grace (Seydell) Pettit. In August of 1951, JoAn married Joseph Horton in Portland, Ore., where she attended college. In 1958 they moved to Superior, Wis., where JoAn became a dedicated homemaker raising three children. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter and was very talented with crafts. She found unique and creative ways to repurpose tired and gently worn items. JoAn loved to play bridge and wrote beautiful poetry. She was very active in the United Baptist Christian Church in Duluth. She enjoyed shopping and was an avid reader - with a passion for historical romance and King Arthur books. JoAn Horton was a devoted wife, a beloved mother and a kind and generous soul. JoAn is survived by her two daughters, Sandy (Randy) Stark and Peggy (Ron) Morrison; son, Bob (Julie) Horton; grandchildren, Kimberly, McKenzie, Erica, Effie and Ryan; great-granddaughter, Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents; three sisters, Iris Pettit, Wyoma (Elmer) Meese and Marijen (Bob) Sharlock; brother, Glen (Ellen) Pettit; and an infant sister.
