George Luther

SUN PRAIRIE - George Luther, age 78, of Sun Prairie, passed away peacefully surrounded by those that loved him on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at UW Hospital, after injuries sustained from a fall. George was born on Jan. 14, 1943, to Frank and Nelda Luther. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Holland on Dec. 2, 1967, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Madison. George was a U.S. Navy veteran, and it was in the Navy that his passion for electronics, technology and computers was born. George loved his friends and family, his granddaughters, his dog, Mr. Wilson, whiskey on the rocks, his snowbird trips to Arizona with Kathy, the Wisconsin Badgers, playing cards, NASCAR, trips to the casino, remote control airplanes, and strolling around the neighborhood with Mr. Wilson and a pocket full of treats for the other neighborhood dogs. George also loved to travel by plane, ship or motorcycle. He and Kathy spent many years traveling the United States on their bike, and taking long and leisurely trips around the country. George and Kathy also were world travelers and enjoyed exploring interesting destinations like China, Peru, Morocco and Europe, just to name a few. George had a rough exterior but was known by his friends to have a huge and generous heart. He was always willing to lend a hand, give a friend anything they asked for and never missed the opportunity to offer a visitor a cocktail. George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathy; their daughter, Leslie and her husband and two daughters; his sister, Dorothy and her family; and many wonderful friends and neighbors, Brian and Mary, Kris, Chuck and Sharon, Jim and Ellen, Tom and Kim and many others, too numerous to mention. George was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nelda; his brother, Don; his in-laws, Vic and Edna; and brother-in-law, Gary. A celebration of George’s life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a service beginning at 11 a.m. Following the service, loved ones and friends are welcome to join the family at Natural Path Sanctuary, Verona, George’s final resting place. As a final nod to George, we ask you to please dress in something that makes you feel comfortable and casual. In addition, NO SOCKS ALLOWED George was never a fan of socks and had a drawer full of bright white, brand new socks that he refused to wear. Also, per George’s insistence, please wear a mask and get vaccinated.
