Obituary

OREGON- Jay Charles Wendt, age 48, of Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021. He was born on Aug. 24, 1973, in Brookfield, Wis., the son of Charles “Chuck” Wendt and Mary Ellen (Milis) Comp. Jay graduated from Brookfield East High School in 1991 and received his bachelor’s degree from the UW-Madison in Land Planning and Landscape Architecture with a minor in Art History in 1997. Jay met the love of his life Dana Thumler in 1994 and they were married Sept. 4, 1998, in Lake Forest, Ill. He worked as a regional site acquisition manager for Dish Wireless. Jay was literally the very best, most wonderful man, love, father, son, brother, friend and human. He was the brightest light. He treasured his family and dogs and put them first and foremost each and every day. He truly shared and had deep discussions with his children and wife. They knew him inside and out as he did them. His amazing children are a reflection of his greatness and love. Jay's mom, Mary Ellen, dad, Chuck, and stepdad, Jimmy created, raised and loved the most wonderful son that brought so much joy and happiness to so many people on this earth. Jay was an avid outdoorsman. He loved skateboarding, snowboarding and taking his dogs hiking and hunting. Refurbishing his jeep was one of his favorite activities and he was especially glad that he did not blow up the house when it started on fire. Jay was the kind of work teammate that when he was rewarded for meeting milestones, he took his team to a Packers game rather than keeping the financial gain for himself. He built teams everywhere he went. Jay dedicated his life to building his family to be the best of teams this world has seen. They are devastated by his loss and cannot imagine a world without him but will forever be so grateful they had him as their rock, mentor, confidant, comedian, love, teammate, caregiver, chocolate chip crispie maker, and captain of fun. Jay is survived by his wife, Dana; daughter, Hadley Wendt; son, Forest Wendt; mother, Mary Ellen Comp; brother, Scott Wendt; stepbrother, David (Ana) Comp; mother-in-law, Dotti Thumler; stepfather, James Comp; and his loyal golden retrievers, Tea, Trapper and Momo. He was preceded in death by father, Charles “Chuck” Wendt; father-in-law, Albert Thumler; and loyal canine companion, The Moose. Celebration of Life will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dana Wendt or at https://tinyurl.com/e39wp6a6 for a dedicated park bench and habitat restoration at Brooklyn Wildlife Area where Jay and Dana walked with their goldens every morning. I'm truly sorry to hear of Jay's passing. I worked with him briefly at the City of Madison. He was very kind and personable, and always spoke highly of his family. May his memory provide some small measure of comfort in this incredibly difficult time. Dan R.

Knowing that Jay was an outdoorsman who loved nature, we thought that grove of trees in his honor would provide a living witness to a life well lived.
