Click on tribute wall (above) and click on "Live Webcast" MADISON - Patricia DeCarli, age 71, of Madison, passed away, surrounded by love on Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on July 14, 1950, in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Ternavasio) DeCarli. Pat attended Clifton High School in New Jersey. It was there she developed a lifelong dream to become a nurse. As a Candy Striper at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic, she realized that the sight of blood made her woozy and that nursing was not her destiny after all. Pat was a proud class of 1968 Clifton High School graduate. She was living in Staten Island, N.Y., when she became a mom in 1979 and vacationed often enough in The Poconos that she decided to eventually move there and raise her son. Pat loved a good mystery; whether it was a book or a ‘Law and Order’ marathon on tv. She liked to cook, especially Italian food for her family. She was also a huge New York Yankees fan. And we never heard the end of it if she sat down to watch a Yankees game and Joe Buck was commentating; she was adamant he was terrible. While living in Pennsylvania, Pat had a group of close girlfriends and they called themselves the Yada Yadas. These women were hysterical together. You didn’t get near them unless you had thick skin and were ready to laugh…hard. When Pat became a grandma, she started talking about moving to Wisconsin. And then when her second grandchild was on the way, she made the move. We will forever be grateful that she made that tough decision and was here in Madison, right around the corner from her grandkids for the last seven years. Pat had the uncanny ability to remember dates and numbers which made her story-telling interesting and much longer than it needed to be. She had the longest fingers and you knew when she raised her right hand and waived her index finger before saying, ‘I just have to say…’ you were in for quite the statement. While in Wisconsin, she made many friends at Westminster Senior Apartments. She swore she would never play Bingo for a list of reasons…yet there she was, once a week, at the apartments, playing Bingo. And she even bragged about her winnings…usually 50 cents or less. Pat also found a new home in the form of a Catholic Parish. She was an active member of St. Dennis Catholic Church. Patricia is survived by her son, Marc (Lanette Hansen) DeCarli; grandchildren, Everett, Roman and Imogene DeCarli; sister, Beverly Meyers; nieces, Amy (Don) Mullen and Lauren (Keith) Stawartz; cousin, Diane (Sam) Sammarco; great-niece and great-nephews, Casey, Sean, Troy and Derek; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Stephen Meyers. We weren’t ready to say goodbye. Together though, we will move forward knowing she is forever in our hearts…and somehow, waving that index finger at us about to tell another story. Please join us in celebrating Pat’s life with funeral services at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, with Father Joji Ready Allam presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the time of the service on Saturday. Please join us for lunch after the service. Masks required. Pants optional.
