Obituary

MADISON - Nella J. “Nell” Kaat, daughter of John H. and Hattie (Dirkse) Haartman, entered
into the presence of the Lord on March 26, 2025.
 

Nell lived her life serving others on her faith journey. If you were fortunate enough to know her, you may have been blessed by one of her wonderful meals, delicious baked goods, a prayer or visit, caring for your special pet, or an "OrigiNell" creation.
 

Nell was thankful for her friends and family who held a special place in her heart. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 66 years, three wonderful children and their spouses, precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law and his wife, and many nieces and nephews.


Nell is reunited in Heaven with her parents, mother and father-in-law, her brother and sister-in-law, a nephew, and beloved grandson.


A service for immediate family will be held to celebrate her life. Memorials may be made to Extended Hands Pantry (for her love of sharing a meal) or to Bristol Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Nell and I were placed at the same ladies bible study table many years ago. We moved our little group to her home, where she always made us a meal before we started the study. I would go early so that her and I could catch up. We remained connected via text messages and photos shared after the group stopped meeting in 2020. I will cherish my years with Nell and treasure the wisdom she transferred to me. ~ Sarah G.

Nell opened her home to our women’s Bible Study Group. She made us a meal and always had a sweet treat. She was a prayer warrior and a strong woman of faith. God used her coloring art to encourage others in their faith in God and to share the gospel. She has left her footprint on my heart.

When my Boston Terrier, Theo, and I, moved to Westminster Senior apartments in 2020, the first person we met was our next door neighbor, Nell. Nell welcomed us with open arms and our friendship grew rapidly. Our values and how we treated others were completely compatible. We talked or texted one another daily. The memory that stands out to me the most was when Theo and I were outside on our patio and grassy area. I would throw his tennis 🎾 ball for him to fetch. Once he knew Nell’s patio was just 1 door down from ours, he would retrieve his ball and then go and sit in front of Nell’s patio door and paw at her screen to get Nell’s attention. Then Nell would chuckle and throw the ball for him. Theo adored Nell and always sat at her patio door daily to see Nell. Nell adored Theo as well. Nell was instrumental in my return to my faith and my walk with Jesus these past 3-4 years. God orchestrated my circumstances and my journey our paths would cross. God knew I needed Nell to lead me back to Him. Nell will Always hold a Special place in my heart.♥️ 😇❣️🕊️

Nell was such a special lady, one of deep faith in Jesus as her Savior & Lord, a faith we keenly shared. She was my very 1st patient when taking my 1st full-time dental hygiene position with Dr Draves in Monona, 1973. We connected immediately, & for many years, until my retirement, enjoyed reconnecting at her regular dental visits, often with her family too. I became the family's hygienist, loving them all, looking forward to their next visits. I sadly missed her obituary notice but know I will see her again for the most beautiful fellowship together above with our Savior!
