Obituary
MADISON - Carl Ernest Krakow, age 87, of Madison passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Janesville, Wis., on Sept. 10, 1933, the son of Ernest and Belva (Wepking) Krakow.
Carl served in the U.S. Army with the 40th Signal Battalion and spent time in Germany during the Korean War working to establish and maintain communication lines. He obtained rank as a corporal and received the National Defense Service Medal and Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) for his service.
Carl worked for many years at Rexam (formally DRG) in Madison up to his retirement as a machine operator for paper packaging products. He was an avid hunter enjoying hunting deer and turkey with family and friends in the Dodgeville area.
Carl was good with his hands and took on remodeling and adding-on to the family home. He was always on the lookout for a good deal and enjoyed browsing thrift stores for electronics to tinker with and DVDs to watch. He was a kind, gentle and generous man and father who was always willing to help others out. He was a man of few words who didn’t like to be the center of attention, yet always had a twinkle and a smile in his blue eyes.
Carl is survived by his two children and their spouses, Ken (Liz) Krakow of Austin, Texas and Kathy (David) Caulfield of Medford, Ore.; his former spouse, Margie Krakow; his sister, Evelyn (Gilbert) Kessenich of Cottage Grove; and his loving granddaughters, niece, and nephews.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be held once we can all gather together safely. Memorials may be made to a charity or organization of your choice in memory of Carl.

I treasure childhood memories of hunting season when Carl and the whole Krakow family stayed at the farm - so much activity and joy and laughter! In later years Carl would be down for the weekend to help on a project or spend time in the woods, always reading a mystery novel and ready to share a story. His kind and generous soul will be missed.

We only knew Carl through Margie, Ken, and Kathy. Life had given him many twists and turns and his family was going through a lot of changes. Carl was our good neighbor on Paus street. He stayed on really good terms with everybody even though he could not control all of his difficulties alone.
