Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - On March 21, 2023, the heavens welcomed the soul of Frances Louise Trainor, age 88.  Born March 5, 1935, in Dodgeville, Wis., to parents, Rudy and Helena Butteris Gerber, Frances graduated from Verona High School. She married Daniel Trainor in 1953 and built a life in Mount Horeb with six children, 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Frances lived a simple life filled with hard work and a loving desire to care for her large family. She ran a tight ship in her home and her rules of life were pretty simple to follow: Sit down for dinner every night as a family; Wear clean underwear daily; Wash bedsheets on Mondays; and Always tell the truth.

Frances was a wonderful cook, creating meals that nourished both the body and soul. She shared her love of cooking for 30 years in Food Services with the Mount Horeb Area School District. Never one to turn down a competitive poker game, the Tuesday afternoons spent with her nieces were appreciated and cherished. A great joy was attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Whether it be football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track or gymnastics she was there for all the events, home or away, and even once lined up outside the high school at 2 a.m. for basketball playoff tickets.

Frances is survived by her children, Eileen and Jay Hochmuth, Joe and Sue Trainor, Pat and Beth Trainor, Jayne Trainor Smith, Joen and David Meylor, Helena and Kevin Ziegler; grandchildren, Jared Hochmuth, Janae Hochmuth, Stacey and Dan Kuehn, Pete and Abbi Trainor, Jessica and Kevin Hanson, Bryan and Carissa Trainor, Andrew and Lisa Trainor, Ted and Tomo Smith, Samuel Smith, Maggie and David Todd, Madelyne Meylor, Olivia Meylor, Max Meylor, Owen Ziegler and Eli Ziegler; and her great-grandchildren, Rachel, Erin and Brooke Kuehn, Cullen and Jowie Trainor, Hailey, Kristen and Weston Hanson, and Elliot and Isla Trainor. Other surviving family members include her brother, Norman Gerber; sister, Jan Olday; in-laws, Geraldine Trainor, DeDe Trainor, Joann Trainor, Laural Trainor, Dolly Edge, Rita and Blackie Meyer, and Vivian and Ron Zurbuchen.

Angels soaring with her soul are husband, Daniel; and grandbabies, Joey Trainor, Sarah Ziegler and Zachery Ziegler. Siblings preceding Frances in death include, George Gerber, Robert Gerber, Joe Gerber, Betty Singleton, Mary Ann King, Alice Redepenning, Berneice Schulenburg and Shirley Maier.

A funeral service will be held at SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, at 12 noon on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. The family kindly requests no flowers or memorials.

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed, and held so dear. May the memories of your Mom live on forever on the island in the center of your hearts. So sorry Aunt Franny is gone, but she is now with the family that went to Heaven before her and is pain-free. My Dear Aunt Franny, by now you are home and everyone that left before you, greeted you once you received your wings. I can’t help but being very sad losing you but I know you’re happy and pain free. This brings me comfort. So, for now I’ll just be happy with the memories. Love Gail Redepenning-Nix
