Obituary
FITCHBURG - Terry Sue Lichtenfelt died Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at her home in Fitchburg. She fought her battle against cancer with grace and stoic determination.
Terry was born May 15, 1953, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., the youngest daughter of Richard John Lichtenfelt and Barbara Lucille Howlett. She went to high school in her hometown and graduated from Central Michigan University. After college Terry moved to Denver, Colo., with her dog, Bree, and worked as a geological technician for an oil company. She took country western dance classes from Denver Free University. At the final St. Patrick’s Day class at Shotgun Willies, Terry asked Neal Roehm to dance and found her soulmate of nearly 40 years. They were married in a snowstorm in Indian Hills, Colo., on Sept. 28, 1985, Bree by her side.
They moved to Indianapolis, Ind., and started a family. After Jesse and Casey were born, they moved to Zionsville, Ind., were they lived for 25 years. Terry’s sons were her pride and joy. Her compassion and adventurous spirit lives on in them.
Terry loved animals and for many years worked as a volunteer at the Indianapolis humane society (IndyHumane). She brought her work home with her. Bear the dog and Jack the cat became part of the family. Bear took Terry for a walk every day and well, Jack was a cat. They loved her dearly.
With years of study Terry became an accomplished quilter, first focusing on patchwork quilts and then on artistic quilts. Terry loved to learn new skills and techniques and to share what she learned, especially with those who shared her passion. Her artwork ranged from the abstract and whimsical to that which was firmly rooted in nature and the earth. She was active in the Quilters Guild of Indianapolis, Mad City Quilt Guild, High Country Quilters, Memory Cloth Circle, and Brick Street Babes to name but a few. Her generosity and creativity will live on in the many friends she made.
Terry was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Barbara Lichtenfelt; brother-in-law, Thomas P. Orr; and nephew, Richard Thomas Orr. Terry is survived by her sons, Jesse and Casey Roehm; husband, Neal William Roehm; sister, Trudy Orr Karst (Timothy); and nephew, Robert Orr (Barbara).
When Casey was young, he asked his mom what she thought happens when we die? Without missing a beat Terry replied, “I don’t know, something wonderful I hope.” Here is to something wonderful, Terry.

I'm so sad to hear that Terry has left the earth but find comfort in knowing she is experiencing something wonderful. She was a talented quilter that I knew from the Indianapolis Guild. Always so nice and helpful. My sympathy to her family. Cathy Dezelan

Terry and I were friends from 2006 on. We met at Indy Humane where we were the only two volunteers there on Sundays. Trying to get every single dog outside at least once. Times have changed. Lots of volunteers now. Then we did yoga together once a week on Tuesdays until she moved to Wisconsin. She was amazing at yoga. Whenever she came to Indianapolis, we would get together for a little while. She had so many friends, I always felt lucky she had a little time for me. And, of course I was always amazed at her quilting accomplishments. What a wonder she was. I will miss her the rest of my life.

My sincere sympathy to the family. Terry was a dedicated volunteer in the Zionsville Middle School library even after her boys had moved on to the high school. I really enjoyed visiting with her and seeing her latest quilting project. I am sorry for your loss. Sarah Seligman
