Melvin "Mel" Smith

DEFOREST - Melvin "Mel" Smith, age 70, of DeForest, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on July 7, 1951, in Burbank, Calif., the son of George Smith and Melva Herzog. Mel married Carri Morris on Nov. 24, 1979, in Reno, Nev. Mel was known for the loving kindness that he showed to everyone who crossed his path. He always enjoyed a good dad joke, loved photography, and had a passion for music. Mel especially loved playing the saxophone, which he cherished playing as a member of the Sun Prairie and Waunakee Community Bands. Most importantly, he was the rock of his family and always held his children and grandchildren close to him. Melvin is survived by his wife, Carri; children, Danika and Jason Hill, Ruthanne Tedder, Caity Smith and Matt Smith; grandchildren, Luna and Liberty Tedder and Bailey and Hunter Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his two children, Tiana Lenore and Joran MacDonald. A Graveside Service will be held at MIDDLETON JUNCTION CEMETERY, 8409 Isaac Drive, Madison, at 2:30 pm, on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021. Memorials may be made to the family.
