Obituary
MONTELLO - Janice Carol “Jan” Banicki, wife of Roger Banicki, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. She was born to William “Bill” and Lyla (Olson) Martinson at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was the oldest of four children known as the “four Js,” Jan, John, Jim and Jeff. Jan graduated from Madison East High School in 1966 and was always proud to say she was from East High.
Jan was very committed to her work at Mendota Mental Health Institute. She was also very involved in her community being the chair of the Democratic Party in Marquette County, chair of the 6th Congressional District and on the State Democratic Ad-hoc Committee. She was a Town Board Supervisor in Buffalo Township and was elected in 2006 to the County Board in Marquette County. Jan loved being involved. Most important to her was being an HCE member on the county, district and state level. Being a member of this also took her into being the community representative for UMOS which always made her so excited when she had a meeting, traveling or reading at the Montello UMOS Center.
Jan met the love of her life, Roger Banicki, on a blind date and it was love at first sight. They met in March of 1993 and married on June 11, 1993. Her parents knew she was with the right person who would take care of her when they were gone.
Jan is survived by her beloved husband, Roger; two brothers, Jim (Gail) Martinson and John Martinson; sister-in-law, Sandy Martinson; three nephews, Josh(Bryana), Jake and Jesse; three nieces, Kelly, Stacy(Dan) and Jenna; stepsons, Steve (Tina) Banicki, Jeff Banicki (Virginia) and Mike Banicki; five stepdaughters, Katherine Reynolds, Donna (Robert) Monroe, Valerie (Mark) Peppin, Amy Banicki and Wendy (Tim) Nielson; loyal canine companion, Misty; and many other relatives and many very special friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Scott Willam; parents, Bill and Lyla; and brother, Jeff.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of such a fun loving woman. I was blessed to know Jan through working at MMHI, and we briefly shared an office and treasure those days, as well as the happy hours after work. Much love to Jan’s family at this difficult time… Fly high Jan, give Bob a hug from me…

I met and worked with Jan at MMHI. I knew her a person who made me laugh frequently and I always enjoyed bumping into her and Roger at HoChunk casino. Dan and I would like to extend our condolences to Roger and family. She will be missed.
