Laurell is survived by her husband, Jarrod Showers; three sons, Jasper (13), Liam (11) and Simon (8); sisters, Becky Mead, Eleisha Jones and Elinor Mittlestat; father, Mark Hartvigsen; and Mother, Berniece Braun. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hall Cemetery in Fitchburg. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Laurell Showers, my beautiful wife and extraordinary mother of our three boys, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on July 19th, and entered into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus. She devoted her life to raising, nurturing, and protecting our children, by putting their needs before her own. She was so proud to be a full-time mom and considered it her greatest achievement, though I know it was only one of countless others. Laurell knew the value of each life season, and never complained about having her morning coffee breaks interrupted by little voices needing their mom. Nearly every day, she would remind me that our kids would soon be all grown up and that it was important to give them all the best memories that we could. She loved instilling traditions in our home to help build a sense of security and an excited longing for the next big event. Fall was her favorite season, as she looked forward to the changing leaves, apple picking, and costume parties. She also loved going on long walks, cooking, and planning for birthdays. She took so much pride in sitting down with each boy before their birthday, pad of paper in hand, to allow the kids’ imaginations to run wild. Afterwards, she’d feverishly start doing research on how to make their vivid ideas become a reality. This instilled a type of magic in our boys that showed them anything was possible. No matter how busy she was, staying connected with friends and family was a high priority for her. She always made everyone feel important and heard. Although she projected a quietness about her, she had a profound impact on those she interacted with and always left them feeling enriched. In her life, she faced many adversities, but by the love of Jesus, she overcame them all and used her strength to become an advocate to protect those who suffered human trafficking and who had no voice of their own. Throughout our nearly 19 years of marriage, we moved seven times, taking us all over the United States. Although Laurell greatly disliked the idea of moving each time after creating roots, she absolutely loved traveling, going on new adventures, and meeting the many great and wonderful people that have blessed our lives. To Laurell, family was everything. And as a history buff, she was fascinated with her own genealogy and loved following her family tree back as far as she could. On our way back to Wisconsin, she was excited to stop in Sandy, Utah, to see where some of her immigrant ancestors were buried. Through and through, to know Laurell, was to know love and compassion. And although we will miss her love, creativity, humor, and laughter, her legacy will live on through many wonderful memories and the seeds she has planted in everyone she touched. Laurell believed that God was always good, and even if we don’t understand the heartache that happens all around us, she knew that one day He will wipe away every tear and I will be so excited to see her again on that day. Once you met Laurell, she was a friend. I will cherish the memories of when she lived next to me, the boys were such pleasant young men, my pleasure of picking Liam up from school for a few months. I know in my heart, she is resting with Jesus and watching over her family and friends. One day we will see each other again in heaven. Sending prayers and Love. Joanie
