Janet H. Lium

MADISON- Janet “Jan” Lium, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare in Janesville. She was born on May 4, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Gunnar and Helen (Hestness) Lium. Janet was educated at Madison East High School. She worked as an administrative assistant for the University of Wisconsin-Madison for over 25 years. In her younger years, Janet loved bowling in local leagues and going camping with her family. Later she enjoyed attending Badgers hockey, basketball and football games. Most recently, you could find her playing Skip-Bo, a card game, with family and friends. Janet was a loving and special ‘gramma’ to Jessica, her only granddaughter. And her greatest joy in life was her cat, Buster, who was always by her side. Janet is survived by two sons, Greg (Pam) Alter and Jeff Alter; two grandchildren, Joshua Alter and Jessica (Brian Wendt) Alter; sister, Gayle Ann McCredie; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Gwenn Joanne Opsal. Janet’s family would like to thank her niece, Jayne (Leo) Vargas along with Sue Denzer, for all the kind and compassionate care they gave her over these past few years.
