Obituary
MADISON / MOUNT HOREB - Douglas A. Knutson, age 68, of Madison/Mount Horeb, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Doug was the youngest of four children, born in Willmar, Minn., to Gordon and Blanche (Nelson) Knutson on Jan. 5, 1953. Doug was orphaned at the age of 15. As a young child he became an entrepreneur by starting a paper route. As a paper boy, that is what spun his work ethic and supported him to attend Willmar High School and onto Willmar Technical College.
Doug spent his earlier years, wrestling, playing softball, basketball, golf, and bowling. Throughout his life, Doug was an avid sports fanatic. Doug could rattle off any sports stat and was a walking sports encyclopedia. Doug loved attending sporting events, participating in fantasy football leagues, and cheering on his favorite teams: the Minnesota Gophers, Vikings, Twins, and the Wild. While living in South Dakota, Doug looked forward to hosting annual pheasant hunts with family and his dog, Harlee. Doug was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Yelduz Shriner. He was a social butterfly that enjoyed talking and meeting everyone who he was around. Doug was a proud businessman. He spent many years running and operating Doug’s Dairy Queen of Pierre. Later, Doug moved closer to his family in Mount Horeb. He appreciated spending time with his children and grandchildren. He looked forward to movie nights and Wheel of Fortune with home-made popcorn and a brandy diet. While Doug lived in Mount Horeb, he worked at Millers and Sons and was known as “Doug in produce.” Doug took pride with his produce displays and catching up with customers. Doug was a devoted father and loving grandfather.
Doug is survived by his three children, Shannon (Jim) Hadac of Mount Horeb, Ryan Knutson of Sheboygan, and Mikaela (Dan) Sherven of Mount Horeb; granddaughters, Ellie and Madilyn Hadac; and grandson, Mason Sherven. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; granddaughter, Cari Hadac; former in-laws, Nolan and Rose Baker; other aunts, uncles and cousins; his hunting companion, Harlee; and family dog, Phoebe.

Dearest family..... I am so very sorry in the passing of your dad, grandpa and father in law. I loved his million dollar smile and his deep caring for others. Years ago when Doug worked at Perkins, he always made us feel special when we were there. He will always have special place in my heart....... Love and prayers.....Carol Toutge :-)
