Obituary

OREGON - Susanne Mary Busse (née Neuhauser), age 82, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Oregon, Wisconsin, after a long struggle with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Sue was born on January 3, 1944, in Waverly, Iowa, to Laurence and Elfreida Neuhauser. On December 31, 1964, Sue married Daniel Busse in Fort Lee, Virginia. Together they built a life in the Madison area, lovingly raised three children, and shared more than 60 years of marriage. The oldest of seven children, Sue remained close with her extended family her entire life; holding the many babies, cooking for the many gatherings, and sharing in the many moments of joy, laughter, and sadness. She could always be relied upon to listen, help, and give hugs.

Sue worked for 42 years as a Medical Record Coder at Meriter Hospital in Madison, retiring in 2007.  During her career, she developed close relationships with many co-workers and was known for her reliability and warmth.

She enjoyed camping, lake views, reading, music, and time spent with family and the many friends she developed over the years. Sue adored her grandchildren, and cherished her time with them whether they were singing silly songs, exploring all the beautiful flowers Dan grew in their backyard, or eating pancakes with whip cream and sprinkles. She also loved her furry friends, especially the many dogs she and Dan shared over the years, including Zoe and Bella. She was a member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Oregon, where she volunteered her time.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Elfreida Neuhauser; and her brother, Tom Neuhauser. She is survived by her husband, Dan Busse; son, Shawn Busse (Bonnie); son, Chad Busse; and daughter, Brooke Horejsi (Michael) and their children, Jack and Kolya. She is also survived by her siblings, Jack, Charlie, Judy, Cindy, and David Neuhauser.

Sue was so wonderful and warm. When my daughter and I moved to Oregon from Arizona, Sue, and Dan, were the first people we met. She was always so kind, warm and welcoming to me and my daughter. She will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends.

How does one pick a favorite moment out of a lifetime? I don’t think I can, so I will share my thoughts about Sue. Sue was a person who brought smiles and chuckles with her. She also brought warmth and calm with her, a slowness that made me slow and be in the moment, Be Present. Perhaps this trait was not appreciated as a child, but as an adult and parent, it was a wise lesson.  She pointed out the uniqueness of things – a landscape, a color, a sound, a unique trait. I can speak for the whole Lukas family that we were very lucky to have circled her orbit a few times. Sue – may you shine upon the gates of heaven on the most blessed of days. Chris (Lukas) O'Reilly
