Eunice F. Bakken

MOUNT HOREB - Eunice M. Bakken, age 98, was born on the family farm, near Mount Horeb, on Oct. 15, 1922. She died peacefully in her sleep at Girlies Manor on Friday, May 14, 2021. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Rosena (Thorson) Field; her husband of 58 years, Marvin Bakken; her brothers, Roger Field (Donna) and Wesley Field (Irene); two sisters, Doris Field Marquardt and Dawn Field; brothers-in-law, Richard Sharp, Peter Woodward, Richard Means, Robert Bakken(Sophie), Clifford Bakken (Margie), Delphin Bakken (Marie), Hector Bakken (Sally), Irvin H. (Esther) Bakken, Forrest Bakken and Wesley Bakken (Chrystal); sisters-in-law, Evelyn Basthemer (Arthur), Eleanor Moore (Alvin) and Marie Johnson (Julian); and a grandson, Matthew Bakken. She is survived by two sisters, Verna Sharp Woodward and Vivian Means; daughter, Susan (Lonnie Drinkall); three sons, Rod Bakken (Joyann), Jeff Bakken (Susan) and Dr. Matthias Manz (Elisabeth) of Germany; six grandchildren, Andrew, Daniel, Carisa, Adam, Todd and Dane; and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Abigail, Rebecca, Riley, Benjamin, Eleanor and Aidan. Eunice attended school in a one room school at Springdale Center for grades 1-8 and graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1941. She and Marv got married on Feb. 16, 1946. She led an active life based around her strong faith and the Springdale Lutheran Church congregation of which she was a member for all 98 years. She loved quilting, volunteering with groups such as Helping Hands and helping people whenever she could. She enjoyed many sports including playing golf through her 90th birthday and attending dozens of home talent baseball games while watching her husband Marv and two sons play. She was a lifelong Badgers fan, listening to and watching many basketball and football games. She also wanted to thank her many friends, especially Mary, Doris, Ruth, Carol, and Katie, who helped her in many of the activities she loved to do, and Chuck, Jim and Toni for their many golf adventures. A public drive-through visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. A private family service will be held at 2 p.m. at Springdale Lutheran Church, followed by interment.
