I first met Steve over 45 years ago when he was a good friend of my college room mate. My first memories of him, were Steve and my room mate, John Littel at the discotheque at Joker's Wild. It was like Saturday Night Fever out there! After John moved away ,Steve and I remained good friends for the next 40+ years. We went on numerous ski trips to Michigan's U.P. and out west to Colorado and Montana. We also played on a coed volleyball team for many years. Steve had a great sense of humor and was always pleasant to be around. We have so many great stories to remember! We had a great time at breakfast on mother's day and he was looking forward to moving into a new apartment later that week. He and I were constants in each others lives for decades, truly a sign of great friends! He will be greatly missed! Bill Stebbins

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my dear friend Steve. My condolences to all of the Kjin family. We were pretty much inseparable growing up as kids along with Nick Malas and Mark Meddings. We had especially great times in the youth group at Bethel Lutheran Church and all of the softball we used to play back in the day. These memories will stay with me the rest my life, RIP Steve. Sincerely, Jeff Barsness

Met Steve (we called him Kjin) through a skiing group of friends. I would see him in the U.P. on our annual ski trip. He was so funny, sweet, and loved these trips! Gone WAY too soon! Will miss you, Steve!

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Steve’s family, especially his children and grandkids, and his many friends. We were crushed to hear about Steve’s passing. We were blessed to have called him friend for decades. Many memories of shared experiences were retold by Steve as he seemed to revel in reminiscing. There’s a lot of stories to enjoy when you’re friends for 50+ years! We’ll remember his smile and his laugh—even the goofy one, like when he was best man watching us exchange our wedding vows! Still not sure why he was grinning like he did then. Steve was a good man, generous and thoughtful. He spent many laborious hours helping us with our home, sharing with us his vast knowledge and skills including landscaping, door repair, and painting. Occasionally he’d call to say he was stopping by for a few minutes to drop off some item—typically something he saw and acquired and was giving to Nick to add to his collections (such as a hot wheels car). We’ll miss hanging out with Steve whether attending a local hockey game, having dinner, or just watching TV or a movie. He always had something to share whether a recent visit with his son/daughter/uncle or a new acquaintance or interesting character he met while having lunch somewhere. We will miss and always remember Steve!!
