Shirley Jean Tschida

MADISON - Shirley J. Tschida, age 82, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at UW Health at the American Center with her family at her bedside. She was born on April 12, 1939, in La Crosse, Wis., the daughter of Otto and Ruth (Lee) DeLacy. Shirley graduated from Madison East High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to Donald Tschida on Aug. 2, 1958. Shirley worked as a billing specialist for Meriter Hospital for 33 years, retiring in 2004. Shirley was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and Women’s Auxiliary VFW Post 8384. She enjoyed playing cards with her high school friends and planting flowers every spring. Shirley liked reading, listening to country music and cookouts. She loved spending time with her family especially her two granddaughters and all of her grandpets. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Gregory) Peter; two granddaughters, Jordynn Catherine Peter and Darby Camille Peter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; and brothers, Robert, Richard and Douglas DeLacy. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Following the service, all are invited to join the family at Roselawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JDRF, Wisconsin Chapter. The family wishes to thank Dr. Hall and the nursing staff at UW Health at the American Center, and the staff at Oak Park East for all of their wonderful care given to Shirley.
