Obituary

MIDDLETON / MADISON - Margaret Mary Greeno passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021, at home in Middleton, Wis. She was born in October of 1941 in Wausau, Wis., to Jean and Lawrence Beltz. She attended Newman High School in Wausau. She received her undergraduate degree in English and master’s degree in Accounting from UW-Madison. She worked as a CPA accountant and then taught Business and Accounting for Madison Area Technical College for many years. Margaret’s brilliant mind and love of learning kept her continually learning new skills, hobbies, and languages. She not only had an amazing mind for numbers, but her creativity was beautifully apparent in her photography and knitting. She had a keen love of genealogy and researched her family and others with great enthusiasm. She spent many hours teaching herself Spanish and reading Spanish novels. Her love of learning was equal to her love of music and reading which she shared with her beloved husband, Gerald Greeno. They spent many hours in the evening reading out loud to each other and listening to classical music. Earlier adventures included many wonderful days camping and hiking. Her sense of humor, sharp wit and beautiful smile will be missed by her husband of 38 years, her daughter, son-in-law and her two loving grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Greeno; daughter, Lisa Ryan (Garrett) and grandchildren, Lilian and Liam Ryan; son, Mark Grothman; brother, Michael Beltz; and special cousin, Laurie Fitzgerald. She is also survived by brothers-in-law, George Greeno and Julian Greeno (Joyce); sister-in-law, Erma Johnson (Dell); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Peter Beltz (Cindi); in-laws, Richard and Mable Greeno; brothers-in-law, Eugene Greeno (Arlene), Neil Greeno, and Arlyn Greeno (Eleanor); and sisters-in-law, Monica Wetizman (Karl) and Carol Greeno. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the extraordinary kind and compassionate nurses and doctors at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and the invaluable help and guidance of the nurses and staff at Agrace HospiceCare. The family is also very thankful for the help of friends and neighbors at Gardd Parc. A memorial service will be held at Gunderson WEST Funeral and Cremation Care, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Family will receive friends and relatives from 12 noon until the time of the service. A private family burial will be at Luther Memorial Church. Memorials may be made in Margaret’s name to the Agrace Foundation, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 (agrace.org/donate ). Also, in honor of the pleasurable days hiking on the Ice Age Trail, donations can be made to Ice Age Trail Alliance (www.iceagetrail.org/donate/ ) or the charity of the donor’s choice. Mrs Greeno was one of my favorite accounting teachers. She, unknown to her, taught me a lifelong lesson. May you be comforted by the memories of your life together.

I remember working with Margaret. She had a wonderful sense of self. Margaret was fun to work with. She would provide honest feedback, donate personal time to develop new accounting initiatives, and she loved exploring new foods. We shared our love of home-canned tomatoes. She was a happy newlywed when she married Jerry. Forever, I will be grateful for knowing Margaret. My sincere condolences to Jerry & her family. I am grateful to have know Margaret Greeno.
