Obituary
MONONA - William A. Fahey, age 92, of Monona, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Heritage of Monona. He was born on June 19, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Fahey. He married Mary Ellen Rose on Sept. 26, 1959, in Kenosha, Wis.
William attended St. Columbkille’s Elementary School and graduated from Loras Academy High School in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1948. After his return, he attended Loras College and graduated with an economics degree in 1952. William worked at Interstate Finance of Madison after he and Mary Ellen were married. He then worked for Dubuque Bank and Trust, Dupaco Credit Union in Dubuque and then moved to Madison in 1981 and worked for First Federal Bank (Associated) until his retirement.
William was a lifetime Optimist Club member. His hobbies included softball, bowling, golfing, boating, watching the Badgers and St. Louis Cardinals, traveling with family and spending time with his grandchildren. William was always quick with a joke and loved to make others laugh. He especially enjoyed singing, “You are my Sunshine” to his family and caretakers which brought him, and them, much delight.
William is survived by three children, Robert (Debra) Fahey, Jean (Dean) Oseth and Maureen (Ron) Lehmann; six grandchildren, Peyton and Marek Oseth, Tyler (Shanda) and Connor Fahey, and Marshall and Nolan Lehmann; brother, Charles “Chuck” Fahey; and brother-in-law, John (Sue) Rose. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Fahey; son, David Fahey; brothers, Bernard (Alberta) Fahey, John (Nadine) Fahey, Richard (Kate) Fahey and Robert Fahey; and sisters, Lorraine (Fink) Diderch, Eileen (Lester) Schuller, Mary (Stan) Danzer and Florence (James) George.
Funeral Service will be held at St. Dennis Catholic Church, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial with military honors will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park for immediate family.
