Obituary
MADISON - Curtis "Curt" Awve, age 67, of Madison, Wis., passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Bay Harbor Assisted Living. He was born on Jan. 23, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Vernon and Delores (Adamski) Awve.
Curtis graduated from Greenfield High School in 1972 and UW-Oshkosh in 1981, with a Master of Science degree in 1981. He married Susan "Sue" Cripps on Sept. 17, 1988, in Madison. Curtis worked for the State of Wisconsin for 28 years, retiring from the Department of Natural Resources in 2009.
Curtis enjoyed his free time trout and salmon fishing at the family cottage in Door County. He and Sue enjoyed their time together at the cottage and traveling. In his early years he enjoyed hunting with his father and brother. Like his mother, he took pride in landscaping his yard and adding updates to his home over the years. He loved the companionship of his dogs, Oscar, Hans and Max.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Susan; brother, Craig (Nancy) Awve; two nephews, Andrew (Annie) Awve and Mike (Connie) Awve; and two great-nephews, Levi Awve and Asher Awve.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021. A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Due to COVID 19 guidelines, social distancing and face masks are required.
Memorials may be gifted in Curt’s name to Dane County Humane Society or American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

So sorry to hear about Curt. We used to play poker together back in the day. I was laid up after a car accident one time and he came by with another friend and they brought beer and visited with me and that was greatly appreciated. I am so sorry for his family's loss.

I remember Curt's cleaver wit & sense of humor. Dean & I enjoyed getting together with the two of you to play games & go out to eat. I remember the pride Curt took in designing your home & adding his special touches to it after it was built. I enjoyed those bacon wrapped water chestnuts he'd make. I remember & enjoyed the visit the two of you made to our home in rural Richland Center; we walked a trail on our property, you spent the night but cut your visit short because Dean was ailing. I posted a picture of Sue and Curt in St. Joseph, MI in May, 2018. The occasion was a meetup with two of Sue's cousins - Roy and Tom. Curt was great story teller. He will be missed.

Sue, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. I hope that as the time goes on you’ll be able to cherish all the great times you two had together and that can help get you through the hard times. Although I did not know Curt well, I do remember laughing and enjoying the few times we enjoyed yours and Curt’s company with my parents. I even remember ringing in the New Year in the late 90’s. You’ll continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
