ANAHEIM, Calif./MADISON, Wis. - Melissa S. Duane, age 38, passed away unexpectedly, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, as a result of a pedestrian versus automobile accident. She was born on June 26, 1982, in Madison, the younger twin daughter of John R. Duane and Pamela (Barden) Jacobs.
Melissa was a graduate of LaFollette High School Class of 2000. She was blessed with two sons who were her absolute pride and joy. Melissa was kind, loving and loyal, honest with her opinions, compassionate, and fiercely protective of those less fortunate. She had a very artistic nature and enjoyed journaling and reading. We will miss her beautiful blue eyes and sweet smile.
Melissa is survived by her son, Dustin Williams (age 19) and his father, Roy Williams of Menasha; youngest son, Casey Acosta (age 12) and his father, Aaron Acosta of California; parents, Pamela (Thomas) Jacobs of Beaver Dam and John R. Duane of Madison; twin sister and best friend, Melanie Duane; two half-brothers, Benjamin Duane and Quentin Duane; half-sister, Megan (Charlie) Fellin; nephews Shawn Siko, Jason Dewey, and Malakhai Duane ; maternal aunts, Peggy Nelson and Patricia Barden, maternal uncle, Terry Barden; paternal aunt, Penny Duane; paternal uncle, Jeremy Duane; former step father Richard Lesh; former step mother Jonna Duane; and many other loving cousins, family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Harvey M. Barden; maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Lois and Leo Butt; paternal grandparents, John E. and Alberta Duane.
A gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, only 50 people are allowed into the funeral home at one time. Social distancing and face masks will be required. A private inurnment will take place in the near future.

Where do I start on the memories. We hadn’t spoken in many years but what I do remember is whenever I was truly down and lost, you were there for me. The last time we spoke you told me that no matter what I had to keep on going, had to keep on living. I will never forget the memories of the Tripod. Each of us separated but distance but still a strong leg for us all to keep standing. I’ll miss you old friend. I’m sorry it took me so long to reach out.
