SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. - Lucy Pauline White, age 71, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at home. She was born on June 29, 1952, in Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland, the daughter of Peter and Lucy (O'Neil) Power.
Lucy earned her Bachelor’s Degree from University College Dublin and her Master’s in Religious Education from Loyola University Chicago. She met Philip White at university and they were united in marriage on Dec. 30, 1974, the same year they emigrated to America. She was proud to become an American citizen in 1984. Lucy taught religious education in Archdiocesan high schools for 36 years, before making the difficult decision to retire in 2018 in order to take care of her ailing husband. She was especially proud of her work at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Ill.
Lucy enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends in the Chicago and Madison areas. She particularly enjoyed taking her dogs on long walks and playing Rummikub with a group of friends. She was an avid reader, world traveler, Sudoku player, and fierce competitor. Her favorite place was walking along any beach where she collected rocks and shells. Most importantly she was a woman of deep, Christian faith, and was a spiritual support to many.
Lucy is survived by her children, Rachel (Michael) Rosegay, Maureen (Janet Borucki) White and Brendan (Sara Hotton) White; five grandchildren, Lily Becker, Tyler Rosegay, Amber Rosegay, Louise White and Seamus White; brothers, Paddy Power and Teddy Power; and sister, Pauline Griffin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip White; brothers, Gerald Power, Brian Power and Robert Power; and sisters, Patricia Finnerty and Ann Rowe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ALBERT THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2420 St. Albert Drive, Sun Prairie, Wis., at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, with Father Michael Johnson presiding. A private burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Madison, Wis. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.
