Obituary
MADISON - Donna J. Hopke, age 90, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 after struggling for years with interstitial lung disease. She was born on May 31, 1930, in Janesville, Wis., the daughter of Lee and Edna (Nolen) Coyier.
Donna graduated from Madison West High School in 1948. She married Donald Hopke on Jan. 27, 1951, in Madison, Wis., after a chance meeting at a Freeport, Ill., dance studio where Donna taught classes. The most important thing in life to Donna was her family, and that love carried her up until the day she left. She was a member of the Madison Elks Club, Women’s Auxiliary, and WMTV Blue Birds Bowling Team. Her greatest times of enjoyment included spending time with family and friends playing games, traveling, crafting, and relaxing by her pool.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Debra Nackman; two sons, Steven (Catherine) Hopke and Rick (Gail) Hopke; four grandchildren, Heather Hopke, Bryan Hopke, Michael (Annie) Hopke, and Ann Hopke; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Pat (Dale) Schroeder. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Coyier and Duane Coyier; husband, Donald Hopke; and son-in-law, Robert Nackman.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. A graveside service will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, 3054 Highway BB in Cottage Grove. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, only 50 people are allowed into the funeral home at one time. Social distancing and face masks will be required.
