I am so sorry to hear about Rick's passing. He was a one of the kind guy. I knew him through work at the state and fishing. He, Dick Cooperider, Lee Lodl and I fished together for many years. We would have a blast! We stayed at the Shannon home in Minocqua or at Lee's place in Bessemer, Michigan. I won't get in to any details but we did manage to get a little fishing in! Sometimes before noon! Imagine fishing 4 fairly big guys in a 16 foot Lund! My deepest sympathy to you Janice and Colleen, Michelle, Ryan and Cecilia. Rick was a big-hearted guy and will be sadly missed but very fondly remembered. Bill Otto

I was saddened to learn of Rick’s passing. He was a great guy and a wonderful friend. I truly enjoyed the times we spent together. I was honored to be in Eveleth at his marriage to Janice. A smile comes to my face as I remember some of events we shared. The terrific “two-thirds of an orgy” dinner and wine parties at the Wausau Curling Club (which were held when our teams played against each other). I think back to the opening fishing weekends spent at the Shannon home on Kawaguesaga Lake. I remember the bonspiel road trip to Hibbing with Rick, Bill Edwards and John Peterman, riding in Rick’s black, 4-wheel drive van. I remember the congratulatory celebration after he returned from winning the National Mixed Curling Championship. I really enjoyed our time as teammates at the old Madison Curling Club. I was new to the Club. He showed me the ropes and introduced me to many wonderful people and soon to be friends. Years later, as as our paths took different directions, I was thankful to occasionally run into him around town and at Art Fair on the Square. Janice, Colleen, Michelle, while its been some time since our paths have crossed, know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Paul Schaefer

I had the pleasure of interacting with Rick professionally over many years. He was one of the nicest people, always a smile and constructive help. It was with great sadness that I learned of his death. Pam Ploetz
