FITCHBURG - Theodore “Ted” McCarthy, age 70, of Fitchburg, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 (his wedding anniversary), surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born on Dec. 10, 1950, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Lois (Carlson) Felt and Theodore A. McCarthy. Ted graduated from West High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army as an artilleryman from 1970-1972. He returned home and began working in the tile business. After learning the flooring trade and developing the skill, he began his own business, Lake City Flooring. Ted was united in marriage to Mary Klann on April 9, 1983. Over the years, they enjoyed many wonderful adventures together. Ted loved golfing and was a part of many golf leagues. He enjoyed classic cars and was thrilled to own a 1972 Ford LTD convertible. Ted spent many hours restoring the Ford with his good friends and son at his side. Ted’s family was the light of his life. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ted is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Mary; son, Drew (Liani) McCarthy; daughter, Kristin (Jon) Fellin; grandchildren, Liam, Raelin and Emerlie McCarthy and Saylor Fellin; brother, Dan (Judy Miyagawa) McCarthy; sister, Kim (Bill) Bjork; Bridgit Johnston; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Holder and Jim (Kathi) Klann; four sisters-in-law, Jean (Steve) Johnson, Gail (Dan) Mills, Kathy (Rick) Weigman and Patty (Doug) Whato; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Sending our hugs and Aloha to Mary, Drew and Kris and their families. "Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings, where our loved ones shine through to let us know they are happy and at peace." May you ride in peace with the top down, the wind at your back and the sun shining gently on your face. Aloha Oe Ted, til we meet again. Brother Dan & Jude

I first met Ted in 9th grade at West Junior High in the fall of 1965 and, although we were not close friends, have many great and fond memories of him throughout high school and in Madison in the mid-70's. He always had a great smile and a cheerful, positive attitude. He was definitely one of the "good guys".

I hadn't seen Ted since high school. Atomic Mac we called him. Definitely had some good times and were happy that our folks didn't find out. One of the more memorable was a wild ride in the "War Wagon". RIP Ted.
