Obituary

Barneveld - Philip Joseph Barron, age 57, of Barneveld, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on June 7, 1963, in Newport Beach, California, the son of Joseph and Edona (Fullingim) Barron. Philip graduated from Timberline High School in Lacey, Wash., in 1981. He worked for many years as a restaurant manager in the state of Washington and earned a technical degree in pre-manufacturing in 1996 from South Puget Sound Community College. Philip moved to Barneveld years ago to be near his best friend of 40 years, Rhonda Hazen, and her children, Jack, Kayla, Tyler and Blake. Philip attended countless ball games, track meets, plays, school concerts, graduations and any other extracurricular events the Hazen children were involved in. He became known by others in town because of his dedication and support for their family, so much so that Kayla describes him as a third parent. Even when he could no longer attend events because of his health, Philip was in tune with every activity and cheered them on from his home. Philip enjoyed reading science fiction books, watching cooking shows, learning about war history and debating politics just for the fun of it. He was a smart and kind soul who would make dinners and send cookies and flowers “just because.” He truly was a giver, purely for the sake of making others happy. He always put others’ needs ahead of his own. Philip had a special way with animals. He loved his cat, Mr. Cat, and Rhonda’s animals, Ruby, Bliss and Ethel. Even Ruby can’t walk by his house to this day without adamantly wanting to go in for a treat. Philip was loved by each and every one of them. A special thank you goes out to the Barneveld Area Rescue Squad and Barneveld Fire Department, a group of volunteers who assisted Philip several times and provided excellent care while always showing him compassion and true kindness. Philip is survived by his sister, Lynda (Jennine) West; and his best friend, Rhonda, and her family, Jack, Kayla, Tyler and Blake Hazen. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Vera Barron; and grandmother, Leona Fullingim. There will be a small informal gathering (with masks) at Rhonda’s home (211 Quail Ridge Drive, Barneveld) on Saturday, April 17, 2021, beginning at noon for anyone wanting to stop by and hear or share a story. Memorials may be made in Philip’s honor to the Barneveld Area Rescue Squad, 403 Business ID, Barneveld, WI 53507. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
