Obituary
MADISON - Betty “Joyce” Hart, age 94, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Oak Park Place. She was born in Madison on March 24, 1927, to James and Nettie (Marfilus) Dickens. Betty graduated from Madison East High School, Class of 1944. She was united in marriage to John R. Hart on Aug. 30, 1947, at St. Paul University Chapel. They built their home together in Madison with their four children. Later in life they split their time between Madison and Naples, Fla.
John and Betty worked together building the family-owned construction and rental property business, Hart Rentals, passing down a legacy to their loved ones who they cared for profoundly. Betty enjoyed the simplicities of life, playing cards with friends, traveling and opening their home to the neighborhood children. Her true joys in life came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom she was so proud. She had a first-class sense of humor, a warm and welcoming heart and always put others first. Betty was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Betty is survived by her children, James (Sharette) Hart, Thomas (Jennifer Kearney) Hart, Jeanne Hart and William Hart; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Nora) Hart, Jonathan (Carrie) Hart, Sean (Alexis) Ball, Natalie (Jason) Lindner, Alexandra Hart, Patrick (Audrey) Koehler and Camryn Hart; 13 great-grandchildren, Ian, Sophie, Ralph, Quinton, Lyla, Kit, Penelope, Brooks, Mallory, Colton, Hudson, Hampton and Hendrik; special friend, Collen “Gannon” Otteson; and many close relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John R. Hart; grandson, Michael Hart; sister, Ruth (Gregory) Ripp; brother, Raymond “Bill” (Velva) Dickens; and numerous siblings who passed in childbirth, James, Viola, Ladora, Joy and Baby Girl Dickens.
Love you to the moon and back Mom, Fromme, Begga Betty, and Great-Grandma Betty. Until we meet again, watch over us from the heaven above.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday. Following the burial please join the family for a luncheon at Kavanaugh’s Esquire Club, 1025 N. Sherman Ave., Madison.

The first time I met Betty was by accident. I was at Betty’s hair salon talking with the stylists about my daughter’s engagement/wedding. Betty happened to be there and remarked that the details so matched the details of her grandson’s engagement/wedding. That is when we realized we would be “family”. Ed and I enjoyed all the family get-togethers and Betty was such an important presence at those times. She was such a loving, caring woman. Betty so obviously loved each and every member of her family, from the oldest to that little newly born great-grandchild placed in her arms. We so missed her at the last Christmas gathering. It wasn’t quite the same without her. I wish we had known that the last time we saw her would be the last time for we would have made sure she knew how honored we were to have known her.
