Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE - Gene Aubrey Edwards, 82, of Sun Prairie, passed away on April 1, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis. He was born on Sept. 29, 1938, in Waupaca, Wis., the son of Aubrey and Eldora (Hoppe) Edwards. Gene graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in Geology but worked in the computer industry his whole career. Gene retired from the State of Wisconsin (Information Technology) in 1996.
Gene was united in marriage to Berla Steck in 1959. They had three children, Julia Edwards (John Gorton), Scott Edwards and Jill Susini (Lionel). Gene married Gretchen Miller Moore in 1997. She has two children, Kelly Moore (Diana) and Sheri Wiersma (Joel). Gene and Gretchen have nine grandchildren, Allie Gorton, Justin Gorton, Anna Susini, Zach Susini, Levi Wiersma, Sidney Wiersma, Micah Wiersma, Hannah Moore and Ava Moore. Gene loved his family. Gene is survived by his brother, David (Karen), his uncle, William (Dee); and many nieces and nephews.
Gene enjoyed fishing (especially for muskies), collecting muskie lures and tying flies, hunting with his beloved dog Samantha, gardening, playing card and board games, camping, traveling in the USA and Europe and exploring the geology of his surroundings. He and Gretchen were Arizona snowbirds for 16 years. He had an insatiable love of books. Gene was known for his great sense of humor. He was lovingly called “Grandpa Popcorn” by the grandkids. Gene was a good man and will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be held with immediate family.
