Mary Birrenkott

MADISON - Mary D. Birrenkott, age 92, of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Oak Park Place. She was born on Jan. 28, 1929, in Madison, the daughter of Harry W. and Dorothy C. (Geiger) Everhart. Mary graduated in 1946 from East High School in Madison and worked as an accountant. She was united in marriage to Glenn P. Birrenkott Sr. on May 13, 1950. Mary is survived by her four children, Glenn (Marian) Birrenkott Jr., Barb Kohl, Sue (Jerry) Schenk, and Karen (Steve) Asbjornson; four grandchildren, Keri (David) Clark, Anna (Marc) Pittman, and Jacob and Cory Asbjornson; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents; and eight brothers. Mary was the glue that held our family together. From literally “keeping the home fires burning” to putting up with pigeons, pheasants, hunting dogs and assorted wildlife coming in the back door - nothing seemed to faze her. No one ever left her home hungry, thirsty or without a smile. Mary enjoyed doing arts and crafts. She loved spending time with her grandkids going to all of their different activities, playing card and board games and playing Bingo at the Annual St. Dennis Parish Festival. Mary was a charter and faithful member of St. Dennis Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 16, 2021. Private burial for family will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Mary’s family is thankful and appreciative of the staff at Oak Park Place and Agrace HospiceCare for their attention to details and the compassionate care that they gave our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
