Elfriede Jones

MADISON- Elfriede Elisabeth Jones, age 88, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. She was born on Nov. 17, 1935, in Fischerbach, Germany, the daughter of Otto and Sofie (Schwarz) Summ.

Elfriede was united in marriage to Alfred W. Jones on July 12, 1955, in Germany. Together they had two daughters, Juliana and Heidi.

Elfriede was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the first female president of the German Club of Madison (a special thank you to the Mennenga Financial Services for their support of the German Club).

Elfriede enjoyed traveling. She went on many cruises and Hawaii was always a favorite vacation destination. She also led bus tours to various places, making sure that she had a few good jokes and snacks for the participants.

Elfriede is survived by her daughters, Juliana Elisabeth Johnson (Arnold Miller) and Heidi Maria Jones (Jeffery H. Swartzlander); four grandchildren, Justin W. Johnson (Veronica Harris), Nicholas M. Straubhaar (Rachel Straubhaar), Danielle Arendt (John Arendt) and Britney Straubhaar; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Mechtilde Boehm (Summ) of Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Sofie Summ; her brother, Otto Summ; two brothers and a sister that died young during World War II; and her husband, Alfred W. Jones.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
