Obituary
MADISON - James P. “Jim” Sullivan, age 93, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. He was born on June 22, 1928, in Madison, the son of Leonard and Madalyn (Meise) Sullivan.
At age 15, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines and after one year returned home to finish his education. He graduated from West High School and continued working at his family’s grocery store, The A & P.
Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During this time, he learned cartography and became interested in printing. Once Jim returned home, he began working for Webcrafters. He was a hard worker and was admired by his coworkers. Jim met his future bride, Maybelle R. Thompson, at work and they were married on Aug. 24, 1956. He retired from Webcrafters after 40 years of service.
Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing euchre and bridge. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting. He will be remembered for being an amazing grill master and his love for socializing.
James is survived by his son, James "Jim" L. (Vicky) Sullivan; daughter, Kelly (Steven Rothmann) Sullivan; grandchildren, Blair (Luke) Michalski and Danny (Rachele) Sullivan; great-grandson, Charlie Michalski; and sisters-in-law, Patty Sullivan and Cathy Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maybelle in May 2021; parents, Leonard and Madalyn; brothers, Edward (Virginia) Sullivan and John Sullivan; and sisters, Margaret (Tom) Starry, Francis (Donald) Schaub and Mary (Jim) Riley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022, with Father Chad Droessler presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday.
