FITCHBURG - Rodney Wayne “Pog" McKeown was taken home in the arms of loving angels to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021. He was born in Madison, Wis., on June 15, 1959, to Ardith and Richard McKeown. He attended Oregon High School. As a young adult, Rodney worked side by side with his dad doing landscaping and asphalting for their company, Guaranteed Asphalt and Landscaping. Next came his racing career; street stock #65 and then modified #2. Up until the day he died he enjoyed tinkering with cars at his shop with his friends by his side. As he got older, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends around the campfire, watching movies and playing board games and cards. Rodney married the love of his life, Sandy, on Oct. 31, 1990. Together they had three children, Shelby, Fawn and Faith. He was reunited in death with his wife, Sandy; his father, Richard; his brother, Marvin; his father-in-law, Owen; and his mother-in-law, Nancy. Rodney is survived by his mother, Ardith; two sisters, Mary Jo, Denise (Jim) Busse, a brother, Ron; three daughters, Shelby (Orlando) Jimenez, Faith and Fawn Walker; his grandchildren, Aubreana, Chanel, Harper, Mashawnna, Natalia, Owen, Jo-Jo and Jaxon; a great-grandson, D.J.; a niece, Leisha Chapman; and two nephews, Michael (Amber) and Corey Herman. Rodney, who most will remember as "Pog" or "Pogie" was the most selfless, golden hearted son, brother, uncle, father, grandpa and father-in-law we ever knew. He was a friend to so many and had this way of always making you feel as if you were family. He was the kind of guy that would take his shirt off of his back for you, literally. You could call him in the middle of anything and he would stop what he was doing to tow your car out of a ditch or change a tire for you. He would drive by and see that your driveway was snow covered so he would plow it for you or shovel it. He was the kind of guy that was your right-hand man. There was no job that was too BIG for him! You were one in a million and you are irreplaceable. To your family you were all of the above, but most of all we will miss your affectionate smile and twinkle in those piercing blue eyes. Although you're gone you will never be forgotten!!! Until we meet again, you are finally at peace and able to rest. A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 6 p.m. on Monday Feb. 22, 2021, with Pastor Cat Smith presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Due to COVID-19 guidelines at this time, only 40 people are allowed into the funeral home at one time.
