There are 10,000 things to say about Jerry Curren, but as Bapa used to tell me in the sauna when speaking about his journalism career - "make your point and get the hell outta there..." That being said, my biggest takeaway from his life was how he was able to make "the ordinary," special. All of my fellow cousins know - it wasn't "just" water - it was Bapa's special water... He didn't just "go to the eye doctor" - he came back to the breakfast table after a routine checkup with a story that had the whole family in hysterics (I don't even remember the details of the eye doctor story, but I can still hear him yelling "I yo eye doctor!"). And of course, it wasn't just the "Badger Marching Band" - it was the best damn band in the country! In sum, there are 10,000 adjectives to describe this wonderful human being, but I think if I had to choose one word to describe Bapa, it would be the word “enthusiasm.” It comes from the Greek phrase en theos. En is the Greek word for the English word “in.” Theos is the Greek word for “God.” So en theos means to be “in God.” Bapa may have past, but his enthusiasm lives on, not only in our hearts - but in the everyday unfolding of life. Thank you your endless love and generosity Bapa! Your Grandson - Charles Austin Curren

We were so pleased and fortunate to share the company of Jerry and Betty at St Peter masses. Their friendship enabled us to share the gift of a wonderful dinner and concert at Overture, for which we are so grateful. We loved Jerry and send our condolences, prayers and message of love to Betty. Such a dear couple.

Dear Betty and family, my prayers and sympathy on the death of Jerry. What a fine man! I remember that he spoke at our sesquicentennial celebration here at the Mound many years ago. Sister Laura Goedken
