MADISON - On Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, Marlene Jaskaniec, loving wife and devoted mother of three children, passed away at the age of 78.
Marlene was born, as an identical twin, on Dec. 26, 1942, in rural Janesville, Wis., to George and Irene (Finley) Schmidley. She was proud to have attended Willowdale, a one room school, later graduating from Janesville Craig High School. She then went on to earn a teaching degree from Edgewood College in Madison. On Aug. 6, 1966, she married the love of her life, Michael Jaskaniec. They raised one son, Andrew, and two daughters, Aimee and Angeline. Marlene was the mom who could sew any dress or costume you wanted, lead a troop of kids camping, be fearless down a waterslide, dance in the school talent show and never miss cheering you on at a sports game. Marlene loved being active and belonged to several golf leagues, card clubs, enjoyed gardening, Badgers games, volunteer work and participating in many neighborhood and family activities. Whenever there was a need for a volunteer Marlene gladly filled the role, being especially fond of her work with Attic Angel and PEO. She enjoyed summering in Madison, Wis., and wintering in The Villages, Fla. Marlene was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Wisconsin, and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Florida.
Marlene was preceded in death by her father, George; mother, Irene; and brother, Michael. She is survived by her husband, Michael; three children, Andrew (Carrie), Aimee (Ben) and Angeline (Jamie); brother, Allen; twin sister, Mareta (Peter); sister, Delores; sister-in-law, Joan; and grandchildren, Bennett, Emma, Rylie, Griffin, Michael and William; many cousins; and nieces, and nephews.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a future date when it is safe for family and friends to gather.

To Mike and family: Marlene will be missed by her many friends. We are happy that we could be included in that group. She was a wonderful hostess for the PGA when there was an outing at your farm. Super Bowl Sunday won't be quite the same without a gathering at your house in Florida and the wonderful soup she prepared. We played golf with her while Nancy played MahJong with her and appreciated all she did for Attic Angel. She had boundless energy even when battling physical issues. I'm so saddened to hear of Marlene's passing! My heart and prayers go out to all her family! I've known Marlene from when she was Secretary at Falk School. Fortunately, I've been able to stay in touch with her while still playing in the "Falk Bridge Group". I so enjoyed hearing from her about her family and activities, especially golf, Bridge and volunteering. My last fond memory was the lovely "covid safe" gathering she hosted for the Falk Bridge friends in her back yard this past Fall. She is a classy lady and friend and will be so missed! Mary

We were Blessed when Mike and Marlene moved into our neighborhood and as friendships grew we soon realized she had a keen wit, happy disposition and elfish sense of humor. How fortunate it was to have an identical twin! Marlene and I had a lot of fun with that as we wore our hair the same and dressed exactly the same until we were 14 years old. We did enjoy confusing people. It was great to always have that special friend and companion. We both graduated from Edgewood College with teaching degrees and our careers took us on separate paths then as Marlene moved to Milwaukee where she met Michael and I stayed in Madison. Michael and Marlene lived in Milwaukee and then in Stoddard, Wi a few years before moving back to Madison where they have lived for many years. So great to have them nearby . I have many wonderful memories and I will always miss my dear Marlene.
