Frank S. Casta

MADISON - Frank Steven Casta, age 68, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at UW Hospital and Clinics. Frank worked as a retail manager for many years, leading by example through his work ethic, and well-respected by those who worked for him. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a loving husband, father, and for the past 12 years an ever present and doting “Papi” to his three grandchildren. Frank loved the outdoors and traveling but, most of all, it was the precious times together with family that he loved most. Born in Quincy, MA on May 1, 1952, the son of Demmy and Lillian (Thyng) Casta, he never lost nor forgot the roots and experiences of his youth. He lived his childhood in a different time than present. Encouraged by circumstance of tight quarters, with five brothers and a sister, he was sent to the outside to learn the ways and adventures of the world. There, he would forge his skills of getting along with others, sport, determination, and respect for all. There, he grew up through the many stories of traveling neighborhoods with his siblings. There, he grew loyal, - a loyalty he carried to his last day - to the teams of his youth: the Boston Patriots, the Bruins, the Celtics and his beloved Red Sox. He married Evelyn Atkin Casta on July 30, 1977 in Margaretville, NY. Their life would be enriched beyond measure as they welcomed Derek, Kayla and Meghan into the world. They would make their life in Weston, WI where Frank added the W to his wardrobe and his loyalty. It was in Weston that Frank and Evelyn nurtured and loved and watched their children grow through their days into the beautiful people they are. His move to Madison was to follow his three children, where he and Evelyn were needed and wanted to be. Together, they did more than any person could expect when grandchildren arrived. They were daily caretakers - from early in the morning to late in the evening. They taught them, they fed them, they loved them. Frank never missed an activity, indoors or outdoors, braving the crowds or the cold, enjoying the sun. He leaves his Maggie, Franklin, and Isla with the indelible imprint of being loved unconditionally and forever… Frank is survived by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn; his loving mother, Barbara Casta; his son and two daughters: Derek Casta; Kayla Sabatini and Meghan St. Clair; and his son-in-law Christopher, both a son and close friend to him. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Magdalene St. Clair, Franklin St. Clair and Isla Sabatini; four brothers, Demmy (Patti) Casta, Mark (Lynne) Casta, Adam (Terri) Casta, Brian (Chris) Casta; sister, Dolores Moore; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph Casta; and his in-laws, William and Mary Atkin. A private family service will be held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, which will be LIVE STREAMED.
