Obituary

Middleton / Ashton - Dolores H. “Dee” Ziegler, age 77, of Middleton/Ashton, passed away in her sleep on Monday, September 2nd, 2024. She was born on October 20th, 1946, daughter of Roman and Margaret (Kuehn) Pertzborn. Dee grew up as a farm gal with a traditionally large family and graduated from Waunakee High School in 1964. She met her “tall and handsome” Dave J. Ziegler from Middleton/Ashton, and they were married on May 25th, 1968, at St. John’s Parish in Waunakee.

As a young lady, she worked at General Casualty Insurance. After getting married and starting a family, she did in-home childcare, became a childcare teacher and eventually the director of Treehouse Childcare in Waunakee. Soon after, her hobby and love of flowers led her to work at Orchids by the Ackers, which became Urban Gardens & Greenhouse. Dee had an incredible green thumb with encyclopedia-like knowledge of flowers, especially all things orchids. She was often seen after retirement still wearing an apron and potting in the dirt around home and at the ball diamond.

Dee touched so many people with her fun-loving nature. If one did not work with Dee or know her as a daycare provider, they may have known her through the Blackhawk Tug of War League which her and Dave were active with for many years. She also enjoyed dancing, especially old school hop polka. Dee cherished her angel collection and her Christmas house villages. Other hobbies included gardening, cooking, canning, making horseradish and keeping an eye on Dave’s tractor collection. She enjoyed scrapbooking and relaxing while watching gameshows and The Waltons. Dee loved spending time with her grandchildren and pets, camping and of course attending the Home Talent Games.

Dee will be dearly missed by her daughters, Kristina “Kristi” Campbell (Reggie Ziegler) and Shelly (Bob) Fischer; grandchildren, Rachel and Brandyn Fischer; siblings, Agnes (Lorney) Hellendbrand, Marjorie Cummings, Mike (Shirley) Pertzborn, Dan (Deb) Pertzborn and Ken (Colleen) Pertzborn; and in-laws, Bonnie and Sandy Pertzborn, Barb Ziegler and Rose (Roger) Ballweg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David J.; siblings, Larry, Roman, Ed, Bill and Mary; and in-laws, Paul (Marie) Ziegler and brother-in-law’s Ralph, and Vern Ziegler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7121 County Road K, Ashton, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, with Father Brian Dulli presiding. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday.

The family would like to thank the first responders and all the loving helpfulness of her amazing neighbors. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I’m so sorry to hear of Dees passing. I have so many fond memories from all the years we worked together at Orchids by the Acker’s. I have a forever love of Kohlrabi thanks to Dee! She shared so many stories, TONS of plant knowledge, and lots of great info on canning over the years that I still cherish to this day. I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. Dee was such a joy, and I am so thankful for all the time we spent together. Sending all my love and condolences to your family. Love, Amanda Maslanka
