Tasha Mary Cheney
February 11, 1984 - December 03, 2020
Obituary
Tasha Mary Cheney, age 36, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, after a courageous battle against cancer.
The world was made a little brighter at Tasha’s birth on Feb. 11, 1984, in Park Rapids, Minnesota. She grew up in both the deserts of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and the farmlands of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin. She graduated with a degree in marketing and business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Tasha was a master organizer and Jill of all trades, with a career spanning the positions of lifeguard, handywoman, office manager and licensed real estate agent.
Tasha had a sincere love of animals, disc golf and motorcycles. Favorite pastimes included serenading herself at intense decibels, sleep eating, keeping 92% of the houseplants alive, dancing like no one was watching and filling every room she entered with a smile and laugh that can only be described as distinctively infectious. Tasha was deeply devoted to her friends, family and the love of her life, Ben. She personified the philosophy of “to plant a tree under which whose shade you do not expect to sit.” Tasha always saw the light in the dark, whether in a person or situation, and loved all with wild abandon.
Tasha is survived by her parents, Craig and Pam Cheney; her partner, Ben Graham; her siblings, Jessica Cheney, Jacob Cheney, Tessa Cheney and Lacy Gilbank; her nephews, Avery and Cooper Rhodes; her grandparents, Gale Cheney, Margaret Cheney and Rose Schultz; her fur babies, Ruby and Gracie; and a saucy bird named Lola. She is predeceased by her grandfather, Gerald Schultz.
Tasha will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all who knew her. Her light will continue to shine bright in us all.
A fantastic celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests to “pour one out for the homies” (non-alcoholic) and/or donate in her memory to the MD Anderson Cancer Center at gifts.mdanderson.org. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
