Obituary

MADISON - Sandra “Sandy” Ketner, age 78, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Sienna Meadows. She was born on April 13, 1946, in Wausau, the daughter of Amos Holbrook and Shirley (Douville) Petersen.

Sandy graduated from Madison East High School in 1964. She married the love of her life, Ray Ketner, on August 1, 1964, in Madison, and they were married for 60 years. She worked for Bormans in Monona and watched her granddaughters.

Sandy was always the life of the party and never wanted to miss anything. She enjoyed playing cards and games, going dancing, and shopping for deals. Sandy loved going roller skating with Ray when they were younger. She loved her dog, Teddy! She was a big Packers and Badgers fan and attending racing events with the whole family. She had a zest for life like nobody else. Fun entered the room when she walked in. She was a one-of-a-kind woman, wife, friend, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She will be forever in our hearts and forever missed.

Ray, Loree and Jeff, we were saddened to hear of Sandy's passing. She was a wonderful person, wife and mom. We know that she is now in a better place from which she will be able to watch over her husband, kids and grandkids.

Although it hurts to say goodbye, I cherish every memory I shared with Aunt Sandy, especially as a kid. Aunt Sandy and Uncle Ray were always so welcoming as Johnny and I would enjoy spending a few summers with them, Jeff and Loree. It was a vey special time in my life. Aunt Sandy played a significant role to me as a child and was like a second mom to me. I always felt a sense of closeness and bonding when we were all together. Some things were uniquely special about my Aunt Sandy that I will miss. I always loved her humor and the laughing episodes she had with mom every time the two of them got together. The two of them would just start giggling like little kids, and couldn’t stop. I found myself joining in not always knowing what we were giggling about. Aunt Sandy and mom always loved each other so much...... I also remember the innumerable times we snuck pizzas late at night after my cousins went to bed; the special parades that Aunt Sandy decorated us up for which we won, and of course the midget races!! I couldn’t wait to get mud slung all over me…...We all remember the hilarious game of Charades and how much fun we had watching mom and Aunt Sandy act out the words....One time mom ran over to Aunt Sandy immitating the word "tackle" and knocked her completely off her chair....oh how we all laughed...... How can I forget the trips to K-mart and the red light specials. My brother, cousins and I couldn’t keep up with the two of them once they locked eyes on a good buy. I miss those days so much. Although it hurts to say goodbye, I will cherish every memory we shared. Aunt Sandy was more than just an aunt; she was a guiding light, a source of love and laughter. Rest in peace my dear Auntie. I will never ever forget you!

My Aunt Sandy was such a special lady. A wonderful and beautiful person. She loved life and loved her family so very much. My memories with my Aunt Sandy are so special. I looked up to my Aunt Sandy while I was growing up. She was always there for me, no matter what the issue. She was like a second mom to me, and She was always so important in my life. Even later in my life, she was always there for me in so many ways. She was such a happy person, always smiling. With my dad being in the Air Force, which put us so far apart when I was a kid, me and my sister Renee would go to Wisconsin every chance we could. I was lucky and got to go more because I was the oldest..lol I would mostly stay with my Aunt Sandy and family, but even if I was at my grandmother's house, but it was close. We all built such wonderful memories together. I always had a hard time saying goodby to My aunt Sandy and my second family. The midget races were something we did often, and my aunt was always packing for our fun times there. I remember when Jeff and Loree were really small, we would go to the drive-in movies, my aunt sandy always had us hooked up with popcorn and drinks and sometimes, even hotdogs...She was always striving to make everyone around her happy and had everything they needed. She loved to shop and when her and my mom would go shopping, I would tag along...I remember so long ago the Maxwell Street days in Madison, that was never missed..lol Her and my mom were like kids together. They would be talking and out of nowhere they would start giggling and laughing so hard they would fall and that made the laughing even harder for them and everyone around until the snorting started. :) I will never forget so many other instances of fun times and love that we all shared, and I will never forget her smile, and her wonderful words of wisdom, that I could always count on. I looked up to her and will always know she is still there with me and everyone else. I always hated saying goodby to you when I visited as a kid, and it is hard to say goodby now, but the memories we live on in me until the day we see each other again. Rest in Peace my Aunt Sandy. You were always so loved and always will be as you touched so many people in your years.
