Obituary
MADISON- Sheila A. Canning died of a long and arduous illness on Feb. 26, 2023, in Verona, near Madison, Wis. She was born in Green Bay, Wis. in 1954, Sheila made Madison her home when she began her studies at the University of Wisconsin in 1972.
Sheila was a very talented woodworker, who made high level furniture and cabinet-making her profession. At different times of her life, Sheila was an avid softball player, cat lover, cab driver, who was at home on Madison’s East side. Sheila lost much over the long course of her illness, but she maintained her ability to resist all of us who sought to help her. Her care team at Badger Prairie Health Care Center demonstrated extraordinary skill, support, warmth and wise counsel, even in the toughest of times.
Sheila is survived by her sister, Kathleen; brothers-in-law, Duncan and Hubert; nieces and nephews, Cassandra, Justin, Samuel and Norah; by her North Carolina cousins and her Wisconsin cousins; and her aunt, Joyce Brennan. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Peggy (Brennan) Canning; and her sister, Julie.
Sheila’s family gathered in Madison for a private commemoration of her life on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
