FITCHBURG - James LeRoy Vickio, age 87, formerly of the Milwaukee area, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at his residence at The Waterford at Fitchburg.
Jim was born on Oct. 27, 1933, in South Milwaukee, Wis., the son of William and Isabelle (Hunt) Vickio. Jim graduated from West Allis Central High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served his country while stationed in Korea. Jim later continued his education at Marquette University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Jim worked in Information Technology as a Systems Analyst, and was employed with Allis Chalmers in West Allis, Wis. for over 30 years, and later with Cooper in Pewaukee, Wis., until his retirement in 1998.
Jim loved life and was a devoted and loving husband, father and "Bapa." He brought joy to many people with his warm personality and uplifting sense of humor. He was a member of the McFarland American Legion Post No. 534 and McFarland Lions Club. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, doing puzzles, watching the Packers and Badgers, and visiting with friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Craig (Debbie) Vickio; three daughters, Cheryl (William) Star, Tamara (Timothy) Benishek and Vicki Vickio Tobin. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Jill, Charissa, Trisha, Trent, Timothy, Megan, Sarah, Beth, James and Brianna; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marlyce (Krenke) Vickio; parents, William J. and Isabelle Vickio; and two brothers, Joseph Vickio and William "Don" Vickio.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, in McFarland, Wis. Entombment will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
