James Lewis Knutson

I was fortunate to have Jim take me under his wing as a student teacher in band at LaFollette High School back in 1970. I am sure that I gave him a few gray hairs as I learned to be a band director, but he was more than patient and understanding with me. I also enjoyed playing in the Madison Municipal Band with him for many years. Thanks Jim for getting me started on my teaching career.

I came to MMSD about the time the musical Knutsons retired, but learned from colleagues regarding their legacies. Please know I send sincere condolences, Ruth, to you and to your whole family. Ann Dettwiler

I grew up as a neighbor on Maher/Morningside until I was in 3rd grade. I have fond memories of playing with Debbie and Mrs. Knutson sewing Barbie clothes as a Birthday gift for me. She also sewed a miniature bride's dress when I was in my cousins wedding. I am so sorry for your loss. May your memories console you.

The LaFollette High School Class of 1969 lovingly Remembers Mr. Knutson. He helped to shape us as humans.
