MADISON - Cecilia D. Vrabec, age 96, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Dec. 24, 1923, in Byron, Wis., the daughter of George and Sadie (Katen) Dolan. She was a graduate of the Oshkosh State Teachers College and received a Master of Science degree in Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In her earlier life, Cecilia enjoyed teaching, reading a good book, playing bridge and traveling with family. In more recent years, she was thankful for visits from family and for eating a good piece of chocolate. Above all, you could always count on her to be there for her family; no ifs, ands or buts.
Together she and her husband, Andrew, raised six surviving children: daughters, Patricia Staats (Curt), Barbara Shepherd (Steven), Nancy Vrabec (Al Boake) and Mary Vrabec (Bill Schaefer), and sons, Peter Vrabec (Susan) and Michael Vrabec (Stephanie). Cecilia and Andrew were blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Our sincere condolences on your loss. It was a blessing to be able to reconnect with Aunt Cele and Uncle Andy in Arizona when I was stationed there, and then later in Wisconsin while I was in graduate school in Madison. We really enjoyed visiting her, she was always so welcoming, and it struck me how sprightly she was into her 80s! It is sad to have lost her, and the generation she represented. She never forgot the sacrifices our Irish ancestors made to come to America, even several generations later. I'm glad we got to spend the time we did with her, and am sorry she's gone.
