Ruth M. Schmitz

BARNEVELD - Ruth M. Schmitz, age 102, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020. Ruth was born on April 16, 1918, to Helen and Hugh Hinman. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jane Parr and Lois Meier; brother, Robert Hinman; mother; father; aunts; uncles; cousins; and Swarts and Hinman relatives! Ruth was married to Norman Hilden from 1940 to 1966, having two children, Virginia Christensen and Greg Hilden. She was married to Robert Schmitz from 1967 through 1989. Ruth lived in the Dodgeville area as a child then moved to Madison. She attended Franklin School and West High School. She graduated from Nursing School in 1939 from St. Mary’s Hospital and was a Registered Nurse for 44 years in the Madison area. Ruth then moved to rural Barneveld in 2000. She attended Monona Lutheran Church and was also a member of Barneveld Lutheran Church. During her last years, she shared a house with her son, Greg Hilden. In her younger days, she enjoyed camping with the Wisconsin Campers Association group, which included her relatives, and driving to Nursing Conventions and destinations in the State of Wisconsin. “I’ve had a good life!” A private burial was held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
