James John Kostle

MADISON- James J. Kostle, age 80, passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, at the Wm. S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. He was born on Jan. 30, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Matthew and Eleanor (Stoffregen) Kostle. As a young man James enjoyed bowling and playing tennis. He graduated from Wahlert High School in Dubuque. On Sept. 16, 1960, Jim was united in marriage to Margaret “Margie” Ellyn Tranel. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, and after his military service, Margie and Jim raised their family in Madison. He worked for many years as a printer for Suttle-Straus before retiring. Jim enjoyed photography, cheering on baseball games and watching hockey. James is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Jari) Mattila; son, David (Terri) Wilhelm; brother, John (Pam) Kostle; sister, Jeanie (Bob) Olds and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Joanie; sister Janice; first wife, Margaret Kostle; and second wife, Marlas Kostle.
