MADISON - Lawrence Clare “Larry” Haugen, 84, of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Vista West in Madison.
Larry was born on August 6, 1941, in Janesville, Wis., to Clarion Willard and Mabel Lucille (Spaulding) Haugen. He grew up and graduated high school in Orfordville, Wis. Larry graduated college from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1963. He married the love of his life, Shari Drollinger, on December 8, 1964, in Heidelberg, Germany, where he was stationed in the United States Army. They spent 55 years together, traveling to Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico and all over the United States.
Larry and Shari raised three children in Racine, Wis.: Melissa Lee, Erik Lawrence and Jennifer Lynn. He enjoyed creating art, woodworking, hunting, and fishing. He loved entertaining and cooking, especially Italian cuisine. Larry spent most of his career at Great Northern Corporation in Racine, Wis. After he retired in 1998, Larry and Shari built a home in Dodgeville where they spent 10 years. They moved to Madison to be closer to family and joined St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Middleton.
Larry is survived by his children, Melissa (Dan) Carlson, Erik (Tracie) Haugen and Jennifer McCright; grandchildren, Kelly, Emily (Brandon), Amanda (Anthony), Jessica, Marcellous, Isaiah and Lily; and great-grandchildren, Aniyah, Aaliyah, Julianna, Elliot, Miles, Anthony III, Alaya, Malakai, Alexander, and Malcolm; sister, Julie (Frank) Hosszu; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shari; sisters-in-law, Leah Ann Drollinger, Anne Louise Drollinger and Barbara Jean Drollinger; and brother-in-law, Jacob Morse Drollinger.
Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKE’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with Pastor Brian Ferguson presiding. There will be a visitation at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Saturday. Burial will be at a later date in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
Memorials may be made in Larry’s name to the Badger Honor Flight.
