David Elmer Buchanan

LODI/STOUGHTON - David E. Buchanan, age 99, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at home in his sleep with his family at his side.

He was born on November 1, 1925, in Sauk City, WI, the son of the late Elmer and Sadie (Miller) Buchanan.

After graduating from Lodi High School in 1943, David took the Agricultural short course at U. W. Madison which ran after fall harvest ending before spring.

David proudly served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army.

He married Jean Kambic July 16, 1960. Together, they celebrated 60 years of marriage until her death on Nov. 29, 2020. David’s love of Jean was shown through his care with her dementia the last years of her life, keeping her safe and happy through those difficult times.

David was employed with DaneCol Farmers Co. Feed Mill and did agricultural extension courses which kept him licensed for crop spraying, which he did for DaneCol solely for many years working long hours when the weather permitted. After retiring in 1991, he helped his cousins Lydia Lou and Phillip on the Miller farm in rural Lodi, which was his childhood home until his family moved to the Buchanan farm a short distance when he was seventeen.

He was a member of Lodi United Methodist Church and United Methodist Volunteer in Mission which focused on repairing homes for people in need and disaster assistance. Together with Jean they traveled south usually with the UMVIM. David and Jean enjoyed going to Pine Lake Bible Camp where besides enjoying the beauty of the camp he did repair improvement projects.  He also belonged to the Lodi Historical Society and volunteered to host and play euchre with the residents of the Devine Savior Nursing Home.

David had a variety of interests including, fishing, curling, listening to the Brewers, playing cribbage, enjoyed euchre every Thursday afternoon at the Reach Out Lodi, and traveling throughout the US, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Survivors include his daughters, Denise (Tom) Falch and Amy (David) Statz; two step-sons, James and Roger Dulaney; three grandchildren, Tiffany (Robert) Helley, Tom Falch, Jr. and Tabitha Falch; five great-grandchildren, Peyton and Izzy Helley, and Maren, Gillian and Clay Falch; his brother, Hugh; sister, Kathleen Oyen; and other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his wife Jean, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence; grandson, Jacob Statz; sister-in-law, Lois Buchanan and brother-in-law, Marvin Oyen.

Up until his passing our reward in life was to see or make David/Dad smile as it brightened you inside with warmth and love.

A celebration of life honoring David will be at LODI UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 130 Locust St. at 11:30 am Friday, April 4, 2025, with Rev. Carlos Carega presiding. A luncheon will follow at the church.

In honor of David's love of the Brewers and baseball, please wear blue, yellow, gold and white clothing or baseball apparel of your liking.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lodi United Methodist Church or Reach Out Lodi.
