Obituary

Cottage Grove - David L. Ring (Dave also known as “Daveo”), age 76, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at UW Hospital and Clinics with family by his side. He was born on Feb. 1, 1948, in Madison, Wis., the son of Richard and Charlotte (Zantow) Ring.

Dave graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1966 and was a three-sport athlete playing football, baseball and basketball. He set high expectations not only for himself which carried through into all aspects of his life, but also for his family. On Aug. 22, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Jane Lemke, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and was recognized as a sharpshooter.

Daveo worked as a licensed plumber for 55 years as a proud member of Plumbers Local No. 167 where he served on the executive board. He took great pride not only in his work, but everything he did. Daveo enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and especially going to all his kids’ and grandkids’ activities, where he requested a front row seat going forward. He was an avid fan of sports and nature, was a youth hockey coach, enjoyed his breakfast club, as well as traveling to visit his Florida family. The most memorable family trip was to Turks and Caicos to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. He most cherished his family and friends and loved being outdoors.

Dave is survived by his wife, Jane; son, Matt (DeeAnn) Ring; daughter, Kim (DJ) Daggett; grandchildren, Carson and Connor Ring, Brinley and Brooks Daggett; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman and Laura Ring; his parents; and other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at The Oaks Golf Course, 4740 Pierceville Road, Cottage Grove, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, with military honors at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Organization of Rare Diseases (NORD) and Agrace HospiceCare. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and staff, especially Dr. Timothy Schmidt and the care team at the UW ICU for all of their care given to Dave as he battled two rare diseases: Waldenstrom B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and Light Chain Amyloidosis.

Jane, Matt and Dee, Kim and DJ, you have been in my thoughts and have my deepest sympathies. I have been thinking of all the great times we had at baseball games, summers around the pool and watching hockey games downstairs together. It was my second home, Jane and Dave were my second parents and I couldn't look back with more admiration and Thanks! Anyone that knew Daveo, knows that the only thing bigger than his temper....was his Heart! No matter what he was going to go on to accomplish later in his life, he knew that he had already won the 'lottery of life' the day Jane Lemke said "Yes". Every time he shook your hand, you could feel the integrity and honesty in his strong, genuine grip. I will always remember his big smile and his classic laugh whenever he would tell an old story. He demand a lot of himself, and of his children, to always be the best version of themselves. Simply put, the World today could use a lot more Dave Ring's in it and I am proud to have the memories we shared forever. I will never forget him and what he meant to my life. TQ
