The memory of Aunt Alice is dear to me! She loved and served the Lord and showed great kindness to her family. I remember visiting at her home and feeling so welcome! She showed the peace and stability that only God can give in hard times. We lived close by when she lost her baby girl. We can have that blessed hope that she is “absent from the body but present with the Lord.” My prayers are for my cousins and their families in this sad time. May each one know “the God of all comfort.” Sue Hanson Walter

It was my honor in the past three years to care for a sweet, spunky, classy, and genuinely unselfish lady. What I will remember about Alice was her kindness, her sense of humor, and her stories. Even though I was there to help her, she always acted like a wonderful hostess and wanted to make sure I was comfortable. When it was cold out, she always offered me one of her throw blankets, and when I served her lunch she insisted on not taking a bite until she saw that I had food in front of me too. One time a hospice chaplain came to play her Christmas carols and asked her what her favorite was so he could play it for her. Alice turned to me and said, “What’s yours?” As for her sense of humor...She would always ask me if I went to her church. When I said yes one day and replied that I had seen her just last Sunday and talked to her there, she grinned and said, “How wonderful for you!” When she was receiving physical therapy, I remember that whenever she was asked if she was ready to exercise, she would raise her finger up and down and say archly, “Like that?” then chuckle. Alice always appreciated and was able to find beauty in the little things. I remember how she took pleasure (and much deliberation) over which brooch she chose to wear each day. I also remember how she loved to compliment the colors in people’s outfits, or how soft or warm a shirt or coat looked and how much pleasure she took in songs and jingles. She always enjoyed the flowers and birds outside her window. Alice was a truly special lady, and I know she appreciated Rob’s loving care very much. I know he made many sacrifices and put her life before his in dozens of little ways on a daily basis. I hope it is a comfort to you, Rob, that you gave her such a great gift by helping her to stay in the home where she had lived for so long. Alice was truly special lady, and I will miss her very much. The memories I have of Alice will always make me smile and be dear to me.
