Jean Ruth Hyne
September 04, 1942 - May 28, 2021
Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Jeanne “Jean” Ruth Hyne our loving and devoted mother who passed on May 28, 2021. Jean was born on September 4, 1942, to Herman and Bernice Leohard in Milwaukee, WI.
She was raised in Brown Deer, where she attended Happy Hill Grade School, the idyllically named place where she met her lifelong best friend, Barbara Merrifield. After high school, she went on to work for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company. At the age of 22, the Lord blessed her with a son, Daniel T. Meloy, which went on to give her the lifelong title that she was forever grateful for, our mother. In the mid-60s, Jean moved to Fox Lake, WI to be closer to her parents. In December of 1973, she married Michael Hyne. Two years later, the Lord blessed them with twin daughters, Joy Lynn and Jill Ann. In 1993, Jean moved to Madison with her twin girls and started working at JCPenney at West Towne Mall, where she became a top salesperson, floor supervisor and eventually receptionist until her retirement in February 2009. After her retirement, she provided daycare for her youngest grandchildren and numerous other babies and preschoolers that all absolutely adored her. She continued to care for children until early this year, when she no longer had the strength.
Jean lived a full life as an amazing mother, homemaker, daycare provider and employee of JCPenney. It was her role as mom and grandma (aka Nonnie) that she cherished above all else. Jean never had material wealth but that did not matter to her. Her children, grandchildren and innumerable friends were her treasures here on earth. She made friends everywhere she went and many of them referred to her as mom and grandma even though they did not share a speck of her DNA.
Our mother was a fantastic cook, making all the classics with nary a recipe card or book in sight. We will miss her homemade strawberry jam, potato salad, lasagna, mushy hamburger (aka hamburger gravy), mashed potatoes and chocolate pudding torte just to name a few. God only knows how, but she always maintained an immaculate house while raising three children and providing daycare for many others. Jean loved to travel, especially with her dear friend Cheryl Kaus. Last but not least, she had a true affinity for garage sales which she passed on to her twin daughters.
Jean is survived by her children, Daniel Meloy, Joy Hull and Jill (Jesse) Patchak, six beloved grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and longtime friends from all over the world. Her boundless love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and especially in the hearts of those blessed enough to call her Mom, Grandma or friend. Her adoring parents preceded her in death.
A celebration of life will be held on Jean's 79th birthday, Saturday, September 4, 2021 at The Blue Mounds State Park from 3:30 p.m. until dusk. A ceremonial lantern release will be held at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Agrace HospiceCare in her honor. Online condolences may be left at www.gundersonfh.com .
